The new Clarins Opalescence face & blush Powder ($40)
Took me a while to say goodbye to this stunning design. I didn’t want to mess up the pretty pan.

Is it just me (probably), but doesn’t it look a little astronomical/sci-fi?

Whoa! Så du det? I thought I saw a satellite fly by…

I actually don’t think it’s meant to be interstellar. I think Clarins was going for graphic design.

I like it — the contrasting lines and circles. very artsy-fartsy, isn’t it?

Face & blush Powder is one of 14 products in the new Clarins Opalescence spring 2014 collection
I need to say…kudos to Clarins for being so consistent with their limited edition blushes. I can pretty much always count on them to 1) never leave me looking like a deranged clown, 2) smell terrific (this one smells like jasmine) and 3) be really easy to use.

Opalescence face & blush Powder ($40) is no exception.

Technically, it’s created to be used as an all-over face powder, a contour powder and a blush. just dust the matte pinkish beige on your shiny spots, sculpt your cheekbones with the matte tan, and add a little color to the apples of your cheeks with the matte coral. (The shimmery gold, by the way, is an overspray and disappears after the first few swipes.)

All three of Opalescence’s shades blended together

Rather than using the shades individually, I’ve been swirling a brush in the pan and mixing everything together, which I do because I find the separate brown and coral regions too tiny for my blush and bronzer brushes. Combined, the colors create a charming peachy coral matte blush. I apply once in the morning, and I’m good for the rest of the day.

Guys/gals from fair to medium skin tones must be able to rock this well, but damsels with very deep tones might want to pass. It just may not create the same fresh-faced effect.

That’s Clarins Opalescence face & blush Powder on my cheeks
Overall, I like what Clarins has done here, but for $40, I’d welcome a lot more dazzle and flash.

If you’re a makeup minimalist who gravitates (I still have that sci-fi-ish design on my brain) toward natural cheek looks and don’t want to deal with having to touch up through the day, Opalescence could suit you well.
